Humanitarian financing in the current global environment: Opportunities, challenges and lessons from the Covid-19 response

In this webinar, co-hosted by DI and UN OCHA in the margins of the ECOSOC Humanitarian Affairs Segment, a panel of experts discusses the latest developments in humanitarian financing in the wake of the Covid-19 pandemic.

This participatory session gives the first opportunity to examine the findings of DI’s Global Humanitarian Assistance (GHA) Report 2021 and take stock of the latest 2021 Global Humanitarian Overview. A panel of experts reflects on this new evidence and shares their experiences of humanitarian work in the age of Covid-19. Participants then engage in a ‘question and answer’ session.

The discussion focuses on trends in humanitarian funding and needs, opportunities for collective action and advocacy in the humanitarian landscape, and approaches to increasing the quality of funding – including flexibility and localisation. The session explores opportunities and challenges in meeting the urgent humanitarian needs and how sufficient levels of resources can be mobilised within the constraints of the pandemic and recovery.

Speakers:

  • Chair Lisa Carty, Director of Humanitarian Financing and Resource Mobilization, OCHA
  • Matt Kimmell, ‎Director of Humanitarian Policy and Global Engagement, Global Affairs Canada
  • Cecilia Roselli, ‎Director, Norwegian Refugee Council Geneva
  • Angus Urquhart, Crisis and Humanitarian Lead, Development Initiatives
